Preston North End Set to Seal Agreement With 27-Year-Old

Preston North End are reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with 27-year-old centre-back Jordan Storey, as the club works to ensure the defender remains at Deepdale beyond this season.

Storey, whose current contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, has been a key figure in the Preston squad since joining in 2018. According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the club is actively working to extend his stay, with manager Paul Heckingbottom keen to tie the player down to longer terms.

A Vital Player for Preston

Since his arrival from Exeter City, Storey has become a reliable part of Preston’s defensive unit. Over the course of six seasons, the Somerset-born defender has racked up 200 appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions. This season alone, Storey has featured 12 times, contributing not only in defence but also with six goals and four assists during his Preston career.

Storey’s consistent performances have made him an integral part of the team, and keeping him at the club would provide much-needed stability at the back as Preston aim to rise up the Championship table. His leadership and defensive experience are seen as crucial assets for the team, who currently sit in 15th place in the league, six points off the play-off spots.

Having risen through the ranks at Exeter City, Storey gained valuable experience during loan spells at non-league clubs such as Bideford, Tiverton Town, and Dorchester Town. After breaking into Exeter’s first team, he made 18 appearances in League Two before his move to Preston. In 2021, he also enjoyed a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in League One, further honing his skills.

What’s Next for Preston?

Preston North End will be hoping to build momentum as they face Norwich City at home this evening. Following a narrow 1-0 victory against Coventry City, courtesy of Emil Riis’s winning goal, the Lilywhites will look to push up the standings and improve their chances of a playoff run.

Securing Storey’s future at Deepdale would not only boost morale but also solidify the club’s defensive options for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Writer’s View

Jordan Storey’s potential contract extension is a significant move for Preston, especially given his experience and reliability in defence. As a player who has developed steadily since joining the club, keeping him at Deepdale could be crucial for Preston’s ambitions.
