Sheffield Wednesday Expected To Win The Race For £450,000-Rated Youngster

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to win the race to sign Polish youngster Olaf Kobacki according to a report from The Star, fending off Championship competition as a result.

Danny Rohl has already been a busy man this summer having already brought in four new names this window. Max Lowe, Svante Ingelsson, Ben Hamer and Yan Valero have all joined the Owls and it is highly unlikely that they’ll be the only additions to the squad.

It has also been reported that the Yorkshire side are close to signing Bournemouth attacker Jamal Lowe on a free transfer following his release from the Cherries this summer. There’s a certain ambitious feel around the club that was simply not present last season, much of that down to Rohl being manager.

He’s currently got a pull factor that other managers and clubs simply do not have and that could well help them pull off the signing of Olaf Kobacki. A rather unknown name, Kobacki currently plays for Polish second tier side Arka Gdynia and would register 16 goals in all competitions last season.

He’s been heavily linked with a move to the Championship, but Sheffield Wednesday were not the first ones linked with the winger. Both Norwich City and Derby County also hold interests in the youngster but it seems as if they’ll now be missing out.

A move to the former could well have worked out and they could be considered the more ambitious given their sixth-placed finish last season. However, with Danny Rohl at the helm, plenty of players are deciding to choose the Owls over anyone else.

Following on from their miraculous late escape last season, Wednesday will be expected to be far higher up the Championship table next term and everything points to a strong showing.

Although he is somewhat of an unknown quantity, adding Kobacki to their ranks could help them to further progress next season. With a market value of just over £450,000 according to Transfermarkt he won’t come cheap but having represented his country up to the under-20 level, the forward has an incredibly high ceiling and he could be a good pickup for Wednesday with the future in mind.

Writer’s View

Sheffield Wednesday beating the likes of Oxford and Derby to the signing of Kobacki shows the club’s current direction and it is certainly an exciting time for fans. There’s far more hope as well around the club compared to last season and everything points to a strong showing.

It’s unlikely that Kobacki will be an instant starter at Hillsborough but given his age and potential, he’s almost certainly one to watch with the future in mind. Signing both him and Lowe would significantly improve their attacking areas. The rebuild looks well underway now.
