Sheffield Wednesday Expected To Be Beaten By Ambitious League One Side To Transfer Target

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to be beaten by Huddersfield Town to the signing of Mickel Miller, with the Football Insider revealing that the latter have opened talks with the player.

It’s certainly going to be a summer of change at The John Smith’s Stadium following the Terriers’ relegation to the third tier. Next season will be their first back in the third tier since the 2011/12 season and they’re many pundits’ favourites for promotion.

Appointing Michael Duff as their manager shows that a project is certainly forming and that could bring a pull factor with it which other clubs simply do not have. The project at Huddersfield may well be enough to convince Miller to drop down to League One having been playing for Plymouth Argyle in the Championship last term.

Miller would make a total of 34 appearances in the second tier last season, 19 of those being starts and helping Argyle to safety in the process. Able to switch between playing on the left hand side of both midfield and defence, he’s proven himself as a versatile asset for the Pilgrims and will be somewhat of a loss after turning down a contract extension at Home Park.

That therefore means, despite being valued by Transfermarkt at around the £350,000 mark, he’ll be walking on a free. As a result, Miller has gained plenty of interest, first from the likes of Preston North End, Portsmouth and Oxford United, but more recently, Sheffield Wednesday.

The Football Insider revealed last week that the Owls were plotting a move for the Plymouth man, but they now look as if they’ll be beaten by Huddersfield to his signature.

Perhaps it is due to the lure of the project at Huddersfield but also through playing in League One, Miller should receive more opportunities and could become a key player in Michael Duff’s side.

It may come as a surprise to see Miller drop down a division but given the size as well of ambitions of Huddersfield, it could be a very good move for the defender. It’s hardly a make-or-break move for the 28-year-old but given he didn’t have his best season and should now theoretically be in his prime, he’ll need to prove himself once again.

There are better options on the market for Wednesday to pursue and under Danny Rohl, there is plenty to be excited about. Perhaps they’ll be targeting a top half finish next season and given how they finished the season, there’s no reason they cannot do just that.
