Former Sheffield Wednesday Player Close To European Qualifier Switch

Reports from Scotland suggest that SPFL outfit St Mirren is on the verge of completing a move for former Sheffield Wednesday wing-back Jaden Brown.

Brown, who only left Hillsborough after a two-year spell at the club, is believed to be signing a two-year deal with Stephen Robinson’s side as they look to embark on a European adventure next season. The left-back spent time on loan with The Buddies last season, as they qualified for the Conference League second qualifying round by finishing fourth in the SPFL.

The 25-year-old started his career with Spurs and was part of the England under-16 team that won the Montaigu Tournament in 2015. He joined Huddersfield Town on a free transfer in 2019 but was loaned to Exeter City, for whom he failed to appear. He did make 28 Championship appearances for the Terriers but was released in 2021, prompting Sheff Weds to snap him up.

He had an injury-hit time at Hillsborough but debuted against Huddersfield in the cup before appearing 32 times across two seasons. He did bag a couple of goals for The Owls, one earning them a 1-0 win against promotion-rivals Peterborough in 2022/23. After the season, with Wednesday promoted, he was released, signing for Lincoln City.

ArrivHe had a tough time at the LNER Stadium and appeared just 11 times for Mark Kennedy before the former Liverpool man was sacked. He came off the bench against Stevenage in Michael Skuabala’s first game and started the second, a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient. However, he appeared just twice more and was loaned to St Mirren in the January window.

Whilst north of the border, he started just once, and appeared seven times, but did enough to impress, with a deal seemingly imminent. He is still contracted to the Imps, but it’s believed a move would involve a minimal fee, if any, in order to allow Brown to play regular football.

This move is a bit of a shock. Brown wasn’t impressing at Lincoln, partly due to injury and the change of manager, but he was deemed surplus to requirements either way. His move to St Mirren didn’t feel like a success, with minimal game time, but manager Stephen Robinson has clearly seen enough to come back for more.

At 25, he is young enough to kick on in his career, and there’s little doubt he has the talent with his upbringing at Spurs. This could be the move the ignites his career, and who knows, he might just be a European hero.

Either way, Wednesday fans are bound to wish him the best – they have much more love for him than Imps supporters, given his goal against Posh. Perhaps all he needs is to find a club that feels like home for him to fulfill that potential.
