Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has stated that he expects owner Vincent Tan to provide funds ahead of the January transfer window.
Speaking at today’s press conference Bulut said: “His (Vincent Tan) character is not to lose and always to have victories. So all of us have to do something about that. And I think in January he will support us really good and we can make something on the transfer market.”
The Bluebirds have been unable to spend money in the previous two transfer windows due to a FIFA transfer embargo placed on the club as of result of issues surrounding payment of the transfer fee for the late Emiliano Sala.
Nevertheless, with the embargo coming to an end after Christmas, the Cardiff boss has his sights set on strengthening his side to continue their push for a top-six finish, and he is confident in knowing what areas need strengthening.
“I hope in January when we can get a few players, we can add more quality in our squad so that we can go through (to the playoffs),” said Bulut.
“It’s clear what we want and in which positions we want. Maybe this makes it easier for us because we are focussing on a few positions. For those positions, we have a few names. It’s not easy to make transfers in January, everyone knows this. But we are focussed on a few names and I hope with the big support of Vincent we can get it done, those deals,” he added.
The South Wales club currently sit seventh in the table, just outside the playoff positions after 15 games. The Bluebirds look to continue their three-game unbeaten run this weekend at home to Norwich City, with the Canaries’ head coach David Wagner under increasing pressure.
Writer’s view
It has been a very strong start to the season for Cardiff City when many were tipping them for another relegation fight after previous seasons. The club made great signings in the summer under the embargo in what could be argued as possibly their best window in many seasons.
Erol Bulut appears confident in what he needs to improve the squad and deserves the opportunity to spend money in order to bring in the players he wants. With the club being able to add, it is a real possibility that they could make a push for promotion this season.
