Norwich City Make Decision On David Wagner’s Immediate Future

Norwich City have decided to allow David Wagner to take charge of the side’s trip to Cardiff City this weekend amid public displeasure from the club’s supporters after Sunday’s defeat.

The Canaries suffered a dismal 3-1 loss to fellow Championship playoff contenders Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road at the weekend. The visitors were 3-0 up at one stage and a late goal from Gabriel Sala was nothing but a mere consolation for the hosts.

Fans were very clear with their feelings when the referee blew for full-time, with much of the criticism directed towards the German coach as Norwich now sit eight points adrift of the playoff places and are closer to the relegation zone.

Nevertheless, according to Pink Un, the board decided in a meeting on Monday that Wagner will still be in the dugout later this week in Wales. Incoming sporting director Ben Knapper was also present in these negotiations.

Knapper will be taking over in the coming weeks from long-time chief Stuart Webber, who handed in his resignation during the summer. It was initially believed that Webber would serve a year-long notice but the 39-year-old is now set to leave in as early as two weeks.

Pink Un also reported that Webber was not present at Carrow Road on Sunday during the defeat to Blackburn Rovers as he is currently in Brazil ‘watching youth games and meeting officials’.

A trip to Cardiff City was the final nail in Nigel Pearson’s coffin at Bristol City just over a week ago and Wagner could follow the same fate at the weekend unless the Canaries fly back to Norfolk with all three points.

The international break starts next week so keeping Wagner in a job until Saturday gives the Norwich City board extra time to find a successor for the current head coach.

The likes of Nathan Jones, John Eustace and Gary Rowett are unemployed right now so there could be a number of excellent candidates lining up to take charge of the strugglers if Wagner is relieved from his duties.
