Birmingham City are weighing up a January transfer window approach for Wrexham star midfielder Elliot Lee, according to the latest reports.
New head coach Wayne Rooney has gotten off to a difficult start to life in the St. Andrew’s dugout, having guided his side to just one point from a possible 12, which has seen the Blues drop from sixth to fifteenth in the Championship under his tutelage.
The ex-Derby County boss is now looking for reinforcements ahead of the winter window and has set his sights on the Red Dragons’ prolific attacking midfielder Lee, as has been reported by The Sun.
The 28-year-old, who made two appearances in the Premier League during his time with West Ham United, is currently sitting on 10 goals in League Two this season and is the joint-fifth top scorer in the division. Meanwhile, he has also registered two assists for the Welsh outfit.
Lee has previously had experience in the Championship too, appearing 29 times in England’s second division and scoring twice, and now a return to the league could be on the cards over the coming weeks.
The former Blackpool loanee joined Wrexham in 2022 and his 15 goals in 51 appearances in the National League played a huge part in helping to guide the team back to the EFL.
Lee reportedly has a transfer value of between £350k-£525k, as per Football Transfers, but with eighteen months still remaining on his current deal, Birmingham City may have to pay a heftier price than that.

It would be a huge blow to Wrexham’s hopes of getting promoted to League One if Lee leaves this January, but would be a tremendous opportunity for the Englishman as it could be his final chance to play in the Championship and possibly the Premier League.
However, the Midlands club would need to front an irresistible sum of money for Wrexham to accept an offer mid-season
