Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has outlined the club’s transfer plans for January, as they look to build on their good start to the season.
The Bluebirds have been unable to spend in the last two transfer windows due to an embargo placed on them surrounding issues with the transfer of Emiliano Sala. Bulut is now looking to bolster his already promising side, to help maintain their strong start to the Championship season. He is hoping to add at least “three or four more players” to his squad.
Speaking to Wales Online, Bulut said: “We don’t have the biggest squad in the Championship. So we have to do something in the market. I think we will do something in January. Some players are maybe not playing so they might change too, we could send some players on loan to leave us.”
The Turkish manager reiterated that players are likely to leave in January in order to free up funds to bring in the players he is looking for.
“I think it will be good for the players to push more in the following games, because we have enough games until January. It’s up to everyone to show everything until January. We are looking already in the market, like all the teams. We have to do something in the market. The squad is too tight.” said Bulut.
“We need to add a bit of quality in the team. In January, some players will come in and some will go. This is the business of football.” he added.
There have been rumours that Cardiff are interested in reuniting with former Striker Kieffer Moore after the club attempted a loan deal in the summer, but it failed to materialise. The Welsh international has been a peripheral figure at Bournemouth in the Premier League this season, with it being a possibility he returns to South Wales in January.
It has also been mentioned that the 48-year-old could look to link up with one of his former players. Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas could also make his way to South Wales in the new year. Bakasetas and Bulut had a successful time together at Turkish sides Alanyaspor and Trabzonspor.
The Greek international captain was part of a midfield alongside current Cardiff player Manolis Siopis, who helped Alanyaspor reach the Turkish Cup final whilst Bulut was manager.

Cardiff have had a great start to the season, especially in comparison to the two previous campaigns, where they were embroiled in a relegation battle. They have performed miracles in the transfer market with only being able to sign free players. Club hero Aaron Ramsey joined in the summer, alongside Greek pair Manolis Siopis and Dimitrios Goutas, who have been standout players this season for the Bluebirds.
With the ability to spend in January, it is likely that the squad will only get stronger. If they are able to get the players in that they are targeting, alongside injured players like Ramsey returning to the fold, it is a real possibility that the South Wales club have a chance at maintaining a promotion push this season.
