Swindon, Tranmere and Mansfield – The Managers in the Frame

Nigel Adkins

Adkins played for Rovers for three years in the eighties, but his modest playing career is dwarfed by his time as a manager. Like Alexander, he was a big hit during a spell with Scunthorpe, whom he twice took into the Championship. He got Southampton promoted in successive seasons too, and did a great job keeping Hull stable in the second-tier, before leaving and watching them get relegated. He’s been out of work for a while now, but may well be tempted back by Tranmere, for whom he would be a top appointment. He could do a job for Swindon in League One also and is seemingly soon to be back in the game.
