Six winter transfers that have caught our eye: Leeds, Sunderland, Lincoln & Rotherham all involved

Simeon Jackson to Stevenage

Eight years ago, this is a coup. Stevenage need goals to pull themselves away from that only relegation spot in the division and once upon a time, Jackson brought goals. Once upon a time.

Like all fairy stories though, his goals are in the past. Sure, he bagged six in 30 for St Mirren last season, but his career post-Gillingham is littered with single-figure hauls. Seven in 46 at Walsall. None in a short spell with Grimsby. Three in 28 for Coventry and none in a short spell with Barnsley. The joke about having more clubs than Tiger Woods is easily pulled out here, but he get’s fewer goals than Bailey Wright.

We’re not saying this isn’t going to be a success, but Jackson wouldn’t strike me as the sort of player to have in a League Two relegation battle. His spell at Grimsby was tepid, he’s only 32 but ambled around like a 38-year-old, harking back to past glories.

Stevenage need goals, we’re not sure this is the winter move they should have made.
