‘Good news!!!! Forgot what it felt like’ – These Carlisle fans react positively to the latest club announcement

Carlisle United have confirmed Mike Jones has verbally agreed a new one year contract (with a review) which will extend his stay at Brunton Park until the summer of 2020.

The thirty-one-year-old scored once in his twenty-four appearances for the Blues last season and has made a total of one hundred and fourteen appearances in his three seasons in Cumbria.

The hard-working midfielder joined Carlisle in 2016 following his release by Oldham Athletic. At the end of 2018, a trigger clause was activated in his initial two-year deal which extended his stay a further year, and manager Steven Pressley offered the popular player a new contract at the end of last season.

Jones came through the ranks at Tranmere and moved onto Bury after a loan spell at Shrewsbury. He made over one hundred and fifty appearances for the Shakers and had spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Crawley before joining Oldham in June 2014.

Talking to the club’s official website, the experienced campaigner said: ‘I have a real affection for the club, and the relationship I have with the fans is fantastic.’

‘I feel very much at home at Brunton Park and the backing I get from the supporters, and the staff is very much appreciated. I’m looking forward to getting back for pre-season and to getting ready for what I’m sure will be a successful season,’ he added.

Blues fans soon took to social media, and the reaction to the news seemed to confirm Jones popularity with supporters who have become concerned over the number of players either leaving or rumoured to be leaving the club.
