Gillingham have confirmed the signing of recently released Manchester United youngster Matty Willock.
Willock penned a two year deal with the Gills in a move which excited many Gillingham fans and their manager Steve Evans who told the club’s official website the club fought off interest from a host of clubs including Glasgow Rangers to land the twenty-two-year-old.
Over the moon. The team is shaping up 💪🏻.

The midfielder failed to make a first-team appearance for United and spent much of his career at Old Trafford out on loan. He spent time in Holand with FC Utrecht and in Scotland with St Johnstone before linking up with St Mirren at the start of last season.
The spell in Paisley was cut short with Willock returning to Manchester after five months of a season-long loan. He then went to League Two Crawley Town for the second half of the season making eleven appearances for the Red Devils.
While his signing was generally seen as positive news by Gills fans, supporters of clubs Willock has turned out for soon took to social media to dampen their enthusiasm. In particular, many fans of St Mirren and St Johnstone gave far from rave reviews of the young player with some questioning Evans claim that Rangers were keen on the youngster.
Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter.
Had him at St Johnstone, sorry but he was bang average. Good luck to him though ⚽️👍

Can whoever wrote that do my eulogy when I die, there is zero chance Rangers wanted him after his two stints up here. Blocked only by Pogba, Mata and Lingard 😂😂😂😂

He will be out on loan before he knows it!

St Mirren cancelled his loan early and he was bloody awful at St Johnstone.
If by ledge you mean absolute horror show then you might be right….

Blinder no. Blind maybe. Not gonna knock him because he is a young player who joined a piss poor team last season, we expected bigger things from him. Good luck to Matty though 👍

If twitter had sound effects you would be hearing that “lorry reversing” sound now…
