Leeds United are showing an interest in promising young Carlisle United winger Liam McCarron as reported by the Daily Mail.
The report claims the talented youngster is valued at around £250,000 and is also being monitored by several other clubs apart from the Yorkshire giants including Sheffield United, Derby and Premier League Wolves.
McCarron made sixteen appearances for Carlisle in 2018/19 as the Cumbrians narrowly missed out on a League Two playoff spot. He signed his first professional contract in September after breaking into the first-team squad while still only seventeen.
Reports of clubs higher up the football pyramid being interested in McCarron are nothing new. At the time Carlisle signed their outstanding youth product on an eighteen-month contract there were claims a Championship club was eyeing a move for the pacy prospect.
Our View
Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that any young hope in the lower-leagues is going to get snapped up by a club from a higher division.
It must be extremely flattering for McCarron to have the calibre of clubs the report suggests are interested in him and Carlilse will no doubt be keen to get some money in with a potentially lucrative sell-on clause included in the deal.
You do have to wonder, nonetheless, whether the young player’s immediate development would be better served playing first-team football at Brunton Park.
