Lifelong fan and owner of Matthews’ cup winner’s medal takes over at Blackpool

The current owner of Sir Stanley Matthews’ 1953 FA Cup winner’s medal has taken over the ownership of Blackpool FC.

Lifelong tangerines fan Simon Sadler completed the deal to take over the club yesterday after being granted High Court and EFL approval to proceed.

The club announced on its official website that Sadler had purchased 96.2% of shares in Blackpool Football Club Limited as well as 100% of Blackpool Football Hotel Limited. In addition, he has acquired the stadium, all stadium-related property and the training ground.

Born and raised in Blackpool, Sadler made his money in asset management and remains chief investment officer of his company Segantii Capital Management, based in Hong Kong.

Sadler first attended Bloomfield Road in 1977 and currently loans out Matthews’ prized cup winner’s medal to the National Football Museum in Manchester.

He was present at Wembley in 2010 to witness the club gain promotion to the Premier League.

The club confirmed in its statement that Sadler is acting in an individual and personal capacity as the new owner of the club.

Our View

Our heartfelt congratulations to all Blackpool fans and we hope you have a much brighter and happier future under the new ownership.
