Middlesbrough can retake top spot in the Championship on Friday night as they welcome Ipswich Town.
Our Three Predictions For Middlesbrough vs Ipswich Town
- Prediction 1 – Jack Clarke To Score – 15/4
- Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 21/20
- Prediction 3 – Ipswich Town To Win – 6/4
First Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Ipswich Town – Jack Clarke To Score – 15/4
With no international duty to tackle, Ipswich’s star winger will be ready for a game where a handful of the players will have played one or two matches over the break. Clarke has finally broken through and become a regular goal threat for the Tractor Boys amid a slow start to the season, and will arrive on Teesside with four goals in his last six matches. While his start is by no means guaranteed after being limited to substitute appearances against Norwich City and Portsmouth, the 24-year-old has a great shot at starting with recent form. Also the club’s penalty taker, he should have a good chance of scoring with Town having won the most penalties of any Championship side this season.
Second Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Ipswich Town – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 21/20
With Middlesbrough’s unbeaten record now in tatters, questions will come about how Rob Edwards’ side will react to their first setback of the campaign. They have been strong defensively all season with just six goals conceded all season, a joint-best in the second tier alongside Stoke City. However, clean sheets are starting to become more scarce, with just one in their last five matches. They face an Ipswich side that have finally come into their own as of late with big wins against East Anglian rivals Norwich and Sheffield United, and will hope to continue that momentum after the break. There could be a few goals in this, with neither side looking rosy at the back.
Third Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Ipswich Town – Ipswich Town To Win – 6/4
Goals have not been coming easily for Boro which might lend a hand to Ipswich in securing three points on Friday. With five goals in as many matches, the home side lags far behind Ipswich who have been electric prior to the international break in front of goal. They sit five games unbeaten going into this game, albeit slightly reprieved from that due to the late abandonment of their match against Blackburn Rovers. With a slightly sputtering offence coming up against some of the best performers in front of goal, Kieran McKenna’s side could take another big step to put themselves back in touch with the promotion conversation.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head
Middlesbrough have finally fallen in the Championship, losing to Portsmouth 1-0 in their final match of the international break. Tottenham loanee Min-Hyeok Yang scored the decisive goal midway through the first half in a game which by all accounts, was controlled by Boro, who could not find the final flourish in front of goal. That loss saw them surrender their lead at the top of the Championship to Coventry City, who now remain the only side in the top four flights of English football to remain unbeaten. Boro have won just once in their last five matches, beating West Bromwich Albion at home, and have conceded just once in four matches at the Riverside.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, are continuing their surge up the table after a shaky start back in the Championship, and hold the joint best recent form record in the division alongisde Coventry. It was finally their day in the East Anglian Derby in their last match before the international break, besting Norwich City 3-1 at Portman Road. Suffolk has been a fortress for Kieran McKenna’s side with wins in each of their last three games there, so they need to start showing some stronger results on the road, and remain winless in their travels with two points from three matches, and could well have been four should the result against Blackburn Rovers stood.
These teams have been Championship regulars as of late, so there are lots of recent matches to dissect between these clubs. It is Boro who have a better record since 2010, with seven wins to Ipswich’s five, and six draws contested. Town, however, remained unbeaten two years ago in their league fixtures, winning at the Riverside in December before holding Michael Carrick’s side to a 1-1 draw.
