Sheffield Wednesday’s search for a first home win of the season could be boosted this weekend by injury problems in the Coventry City camp.
The Sky Blues saw both Victor Torp and Josh Eccles forced off in Wednesday’s 4-0 victory over Millwall, leaving manager Frank Lampard sweating on their fitness ahead of the trip to Hillsborough.
Coventry’s Growing Injury List
Coventry are unbeaten in eight league matches and have climbed into second place under Lampard, but their midweek triumph at The Den came at a cost. Norwegian midfielder Torp, already the club’s second-highest scorer this season behind Haji Wright, departed with an ankle issue, while Eccles was withdrawn after feeling discomfort.
They could join Jack Rudoni, currently sidelined with a calf injury, in missing Saturday’s Yorkshire clash. Lampard confirmed the situation post-match, though he sought to remain positive about potential solutions.
“Torpy had to come off with an ankle injury and Josh has got a bit of a tight glute, so there are areas where we’ll need versatility and we have to try and make the best of that.
“It’s up to us as coaches and for the players to understand that I might play different roles, but I don’t think it’s absolutely alien to Kaine to be able to play on the side there.
“So yeah, it’s no problem at the minute. He’s not a natural winger but he can absolutely do a job.”
The comments highlight Lampard’s faith in the depth of his squad, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden among those who could be redeployed. Nevertheless, the potential absence of Torp in particular would remove a significant attacking threat from Coventry’s midfield.

Wednesday Seek Home Lift
Sheffield Wednesday, under manager Danny Röhl, have made progress in recent weeks, going three games unbeaten. However, they are still waiting for a first league win at Hillsborough this term. The visit of an in-form Coventry side represents another stern challenge, even if Lampard’s options are limited by injury.
Wednesday will take encouragement from their improved defensive displays, but with Coventry unbeaten since the opening day, the Owls must find a way to capitalise on any weakened opposition line-up. The potential absence of Torp, who has been a consistent presence in front of goal, could provide that opportunity.
Writer’s View
This fixture presents contrasting narratives: Wednesday searching for a breakthrough at home and Coventry looking to extend an impressive unbeaten run. Lampard’s side have momentum but may be tested by fitness concerns, particularly if Torp is unavailable.
For the Owls, who continue to adapt under Röhl, this could be the perfect chance to end their Hillsborough drought and send a message that their season is beginning to turn.
