Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher has confirmed that Brighton loanee Amario Cozier-Duberry could be recalled in January, amid reports linking the winger with Sheffield United.
The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to life at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists in 12 League One appearances. His form has reportedly attracted attention from the Championship’s bottom club, who are preparing to strengthen when the transfer window opens.
“In the loan contract of all these players there’s always a call-back clause in January. That’s kind of what happens,” Schumacher told The Bolton News. “If it’s going well for them and they have other plans, or it’s not going well and we need to send them back, then there’s always a break clause.”
Despite the possibility of losing him mid-season, Schumacher said he welcomed the impact of his temporary signings.
“It’s not a concern that they’re doing well. That’s the point of us having loan players because we think they’re good players and they come in and help your team. So, I’m delighted with all of the loan players that we’ve had.”
Cozier-Duberry joined Brighton in 2024 after progressing through Arsenal’s academy, where he featured regularly across youth levels. He spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, making 23 appearances and scoring once.
Cozier-Duberry Career So Far
Raised in Tottenham, Cozier-Duberry joined Chettle Court Rangers before Arsenal’s Hale End in 2019, signed pro terms in 2022, and featured prominently for their U18s/U21s, including the 2023 FA Youth Cup run. After leaving Arsenal in June 2024, he signed a 4-year deal with Brighton.
He spent 2024/25 on loan at Blackburn Rovers (22 league apps, 1 goal) and moved to Bolton for 2025/26, scoring early in league and EFL Cup outings. Internationally, he has represented England from U16 to U20 level, registering goals at U17, U18 and U19. A left-footed, right-sided attacker, he’s noted for direct dribbling and cut-inside shooting with pace, creativity.

Sheffield United Monitor Situation
Sheffield United are thought to be monitoring his progress as they look to inject fresh energy into their attacking options following a difficult start to the campaign. The Blades have lost eight of their first nine matches under Chris Wilder, who returned to Bramall Lane last month after replacing Ruben Selles.
With United currently in the relegation zone alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United, Wilder is expected to prioritise pace and creativity in the winter window. Cozier-Duberry’s combination of direct running and versatility across the front line could make him a realistic target, though Bolton will be keen to retain him for their own promotion push.
Writer’s View
Cozier-Duberry’s performances have underlined both his development and Brighton’s shrewd recruitment strategy. For Bolton, the recall clause is a reminder of the risks that come with relying on top-tier loanees — but also of the benefits when they perform.
If Sheffield United act on their interest, the winger’s next move could depend as much on Brighton’s long-term view as it does on the needs of either club chasing success in very different parts of the EFL pyramid.
