Luton Town manager Matt Bloomfield has told young midfielder Lamine Fann to fight for his place at Kenilworth Road.
This comes after the 21-year-old has missed the last 3 games for the Hatters.
A Slow Start
The Senegalese midfielder joined Luton Town from AIK in January after signing the previous summer. Despite high expectations, his start at Kenilworth Road has been sluggish, with only 18 appearances, including 12 in the Championship and one in the FA Cup. A concussion injury during pre-season didn’t help his claim, and he’s yet to score for the Hatters. Interest from a multitude of clubs and others suggests his potential, but manager Matt Bloomfield may remain open to a loan or transfer.

An Inconsistent Return
It has certainly been one hell of a ride of a rollercoaster of highs and lows for the Hatters. After earning promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs in 2023, they battled bravely but were soon relegated in 2024 following a dismal post-January slump. Their Championship campaign last season proved even more disastrous, with manager Rob Edwards departing in January amid a winless start that saw them plummet to 22nd, confirmed by a 5-3 loss to West Brom on the final day, marking back-to-back relegations to League One. Matt Bloomfield took over, but survival eluded them despite 49 points on the board.
Now in League One this season, Luton sit 9th with 12 points from six games: four wins, no draws, two losses, scoring eight goals. Their start has been inconsistent—strong home form but a recent 3-2 home loss to Plymouth exposed vulnerabilities. As favourites for promotion, hopes rest on key players like experience attackers such as Jerry Yates and Nahki Wells and a solid defence to rebound.
Managers Comments
Manager Matt Bloomfield Said:
“Work hard, prove his point. He’s been out of the squad for a little while, he had an illness a few weeks ago, so he didn’t train for a little while, he’s now back training”.
“He then missed up until the start of the season, he then missed another few days through another illness, so he’s had a very stop-start season so far and one thing that I think Lamine needs is that continuity of training. We need to get him some minutes, he played in the U21s which is fantastic for him, he needs the continuity of minutes and learning the game as a midfield player and then it’s up to Lamine to force his way into the team.”

Facing a tough League One schedule, Luton need a deep squad with versatile options for the grueling fixture list. Urged to fight for a starting spot, Fanne must rise to secure his Kenilworth Road future after only 18 appearances so far.
