Norwich City vs Wrexham: Prediction, Lineups & Odds (20/09)

Norwich City are looking to mount a serious charge to a play-off position under Liam Manning this year. The Canaries are awaiting a visit from Wrexham after a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers was followed up last week with an impressive draw against in-form Coventry City.

The Red Dragons have found the Championship to be tougher than initially expected. There was no expectation that a fourth successive promotion was on the cards, but a 21st-placed position has caused some concern in recent performances. Having lost 3-1 to Queens Park Rangers recently, this is a perfect game to reinstate their quality in the second tier.

First Prediction for Norwich City vs Wrexham – Josh Sargent to score first goal 5/1

Josh Sargent has been the most in-form striker in the Championship to begin the campaign. Despite an evident, targeted approach from second tier defences – attempting to pocket the American – Sargent has already bagged five times. Expect this latest clash to be no different, with Wrexham struggled to keep out chances.

Having been out on international duty prior to the Coventry City match-up, Sargent inevitably couldn’t find the net and was subbed before the 90-minute mark. However, rejuvenated and at home, the striker will be expected to revisit the form he found at the very beginning of the season.

There was no issue with sharing goalscoring glory against Blackburn Rovers; Sargent bagged a brace at Ewood Park and is the main penalty taker for Norwich. If Wrexham defenders struggle to keep up with the American’s pace and manipulation of the ball in the box, a penalty could easily be handed to the established Championship side.

Second Prediction for Norwich City vs Wrexham – Half Time Result – Norwich City 7/5

This bet has landed four times across all competitions this season. Baring in mind, the Canaries have only played a handful of matches, Norwich should see this come through once more.

In the EFL Cup, a victory over Watford saw Manning’s side comfortably take an early 2-0 lead in the opening 24 minutes. Quick starts are a hallmark of the former Bristol City boss’ game, with an attack-minded lineup allowing flying wing-backs to compliment the likes of Sargent and Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Wrexham have been susceptible to early and late collapses so far. Against QPR in particular, the Red Dragons found themselves in an uphill battle very early on and were ultimately outclassed for the most part. Norwich have far more consistent, attacking quality – despite the R’s recruiting very well in their front line.

Third Prediction for Norwich City vs Wrexham – Over 3.5 cards 23/20

In a game that now means more than anticipated, it could be expected that cards are aplenty. Norwich need a win here to nudge into the play-off places, whereas Wrexham need to spur their season on away from the relegation zone.

This landed in the dying moments of Wrexham’s 2-0 victory over Millwall, proving that a late clash of personalities is possible. 18th and 20th-minute yellow cards saw the Red Dragons penalised after a late second was added to their lead by Lewis O’Brien. Eight yellow cards were dished out in a nervy draw between Coventry and the Canaries. Tackles and blocks were imperative for Norwich as they created four shots to Coventry’s 28 – with an xG of 3.68.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-to-Head

Norwich have been great attacking value for money. Despite a 2-1, opening weekend loss to Millwall, the Canaries bounced back with a cup victory over Watford in a close tie. Portsmouth were also on the receiving end of a 2-1 showing by Norwich the following weekend. Losses in two competitions against Middlesbrough and Southampton were followed by the most recent weekends – Blackburn Rovers lost 2-0 to Manning’s side and the latter have drawn 1-1 with Coventry.

Wrexham have had an unexpectedly slow start. Southampton won 2-1 against Phil Parkinson’s side to begin, while an EFL Cup opener saw Ollie Palmer contribute a hero’s send-off with an important equalising brace to take the Hull City game to penalties. West Bromwich Albion then won 3-2 against Wrexham, with QPR beating the Red Dragons 3-1 in the most recent Championship round. In between these defeats: a 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Preston North End and a draw with Sheffield Wednesday as well as a win over Millwall.

There are no recent head-to-head matches to analyse in regards to this fixture. With Wrexham returning from a long spell away from the second tier this season.
