Swansea City Enter Race For In-Demand Free Agent

One report has stated that Swansea City have entered the race for Dele Alli as Championship sides circle to sign the ex-England international.

After a tough few years for the former MK Dons wonderkid turned Tottenham Hotspur star, Dele was released by Italian Serie A side FC Como after eight months at the club. In his time at the Cesc Fabregas-backed club, the 29-year-old played just eight minutes total for the club, in a league match against AC Milan in April, being sent off in the process.

Swans Enter Transfer Battle

The race to sign the midfielder has been heating up since his release, with frequent links to Wrexham and later Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion in a new update from yesterday. A move to the Baggies would reunite him with former Spurs teammate Ryan Mason, who is five games into his tenure as the boss at the Hawthorns.

However, a new name has emerged in Swansea City, with Graeme Bailey speaking to The Wrexham Insider about the chances the Hollywood-backed club have of signing Dele. He said:

“I am told there is a very good chance that Dele Alli ends up in the Championship and that could very well be in Wales. Wrexham have shown an interest, they know there is a talent there and Phil Parkinson wants quality in this squad.

“But there is interest elsewhere in Wales with Swansea also keen. Alli knows he needs to pick the right club and there are a few in the Championship.”

The Swans have not been averse to using the free agent market in recent years, with defender Cyrus Christie arriving mid-season under Luke Edwards. Now under the watch of Alan Sheehan, the Jacks have invested in new defensive midfield options in Nottingham Forest’s Marko Stamenic and Brighton’s Malick Yalcouye, the latter joining on loan.

The race for Dele Alli has heated up with a fourth name in Swansea City reportedly entering the battle to sign the midfielder. A move for Dele would be a good addition for the Jacks, providing depth for Ethan Galbraith in the ten role, and perhaps allowing the former Leyton Orient man to play right-back more regularly. The 29-year-old would need to get back up to fitness, so it would be a while before Dele would make his return to the EFL wherever he signs. West Bromwich Albion is likely still his best option due to his connection with Ryan Mason.
