Our Three Predictions For Charlton Athletic vs Millwall

  • Prediction 1 – Mihailo Ivanovic To Score – 9/4
  • Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 5/8
  • Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 21/10

First Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Millwall – Mihailo Ivanovic To Score – 9/4

After late transfer window speculation which linked the forward with a move to Leicester City, Ivanovic remains at Millwall for the foreseeable future as a leading light for Alex Neil’s squad. The Serbian is involved in international action this week, with a match against France’s under-21 side in a friendly match, meaning he may be a rotation risk depending on how much game time he gets. Nevertheless, he has been a strong presence for the Lions this season with an assist in the win over Sheffield United. Ivanovic has been regularly getting chances at goal, with 21 shots recorded in his opening four matches, but is lacking accuracy with only three being put on target. Against Charlton he should get opportunities, but it is up to the 20-year-old to capitalise on what he is given.

Second Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Millwall – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 5/8

Not only is this match a derby, but also a matchup of some of the worst teams offensively so far this season. Only bottom-placed Sheffield United sit below the Addicks in terms of goals scored, and Millwall are only one goal ahead of their hosts on the weekend. Athletic have scored more than once in just one of their last nine competitive fixtures in their cup win over Stevenage. Millwall however have been strong in their opening matches, with only the game against Wrexham in their final match before the break ending in a shutout for the Lions’ forwards. Charlton however may be unlucky to have conceded as many as they have so far, with Nathan Jones’ side being one of the lowest teams when it comes to xG conceded. That, combined with the struggles of both sides’ forwards could make for a low-scoring game.

Third Prediction For Charlton Athletic vs Millwall – Match To End In A Draw – 21/10

Historically, this has been a game which Millwall has dominated but with their inconsistent start to the season, it could be an opportunity for that to change. Charlton won their opening game of the season at home but have had little joy since, and come up against a Millwall side that have picked up all of their points on the road. With it being a derby, form can go out of the window and with the sluggish performances from many key players on both sides, just one moment of magic could decide the course of the match. With it likely to be a feisty encounter, a draw could be a likely outcome with plenty of bookings possible.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Charlton Athletic have had a tough start to their return to the Championship, finally slowing down after a promising start to the season. They came sprinting out of the gates on the opening day with a strong win against Watford thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Harvey Knibbs. However, it has been difficult since that win at home, with a draw against Bristol City followed by by successive losses to Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers, who ran out comfortable 3-1 winners at Loftus Road. Nathan Jones’ side had a quiet end to their window following the loss to the R’s with only James Bree joining on loan from Southampton, while Micah Mbick and Zach Mitchell have departed to Colchester United and Hibernian, respectively.

Millwall have had a mixed start to their season, with six points from their opening four games. The Lions’ joy has come on the road, with all of their points being picked up away from the Den, with victories over Norwich City on the opening day and against a hapless Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Their last match ended in defeat at home, with Wrexham picking up their first win of the season in a 2-0 win. Alex Neil’s side have also succeeded in the EFL Cup, with a victory over Coventry City handing them a second South London Derby of September as they will travel to Crystal Palace in the third round. It was a busy deadline day for Millwall, with Adam Mayor heading out on loan to Cambridge United and Kevin Nisbet being sold permanently to Aberdeen, who was replaced in the forward department by Thierno Ballo on loan from Wolfsberger, later joined by Will Smallbone who will also play on a temporary basis.

Millwall have been dominant in this fixture in recent years, with seven wins and five draws in the 12 competitive games since 2011. The Addicks’ last win came in 1996 at The Valley, doing the double that season in the former Division One. Charlton have won 12 of the 76 competitive fixtures in history with Millwall claiming victory in 37 of those occasions.
