Harrogate Town Boss Discusses Squad Shakeup Ahead Of Crawley Encounter

Simon Weaver has suggested there could be changes to his lineup as Harrogate Town get ready to face Crawley Town.

The Sulphurites have had a decent start to their campaign with eight points from their opening six games, leaving them in 14th place ahead of the weekend’s play. However, recent weeks have seen a dip in performance for the Yorkshire outfit, with just one win in their last five games across all competitions, including a 2-0 loss to Bromley in their last match.

Weaver Open To Lineup Change

They welcome a Crawley Town side which has struggled since their relegation to the fourth tier, with the Red Devils still searching for their first win of the season. Scott Lindsey’s side have previous successes at Wetherby Road, which may encourage Simon Weaver to change his game plans with a new lineup after being consistent with his choices so far this campaign.

Harrogate have had just 12 players start their matches this season, and the first-choice eleven has remained the same in their last five league fixtures. However, this could change with Weaver telling BBC Radio York that he has thought about shuffling his starting eleven for this fixture. (Quotes via Harrogate Advertiser):

“Of course I think about changes. I’m not accepting losing games in the manner we did at Bromley. We have to deal with balls into the box better than we did. And we have to give people an opportunity to rise, and six games is long enough to have had a look at it.

“We have got a good squad to choose from. If we go a couple of games without a win, I have to go on performances in training as well and see who is ready and primed for action, and wants to deliver that intense 90-minute performance. And, some people have shone this week in training.”

Writers’ View

Harrogate Town have taken a slight nosedive in performances in recent weeks, culminating in a tough loss against Bromley. A change in players sends a message that places are available in the squad and can motivate the players to perform at their best to guarantee game time. With two consistent performers in George Thomson and Liam Gibson out for the next month and possibly beyond, the Sulphurites need to rally together and get results in this game and the coming weeks, facing league leaders Gillingham and a resurgent Swindon Town.
