Peterborough United Target Championship Loan Deal

League One strugglers Peterborough United have identified Elkan Baggott as a potential loan signing on deadline day.

Posh are looking to be active on deadline day, with as many as four players tipped to make the move to Cambridgeshire before the window shuts at 7pm. Just one has been confirmed so far, with Jimmy Jay Morgan arriving on loan from Chelsea.

Baggott Next Name Linked

Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott could join the ranks at Darren Ferguson’s side, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke suggesting that Posh are in talks with the Championship club to sign the central defender on loan. The Indonesian international spent the second half of last season on loan in League One at Blackpool, where he played 20 times.

With Town tipped to sign Mark McGuinness from Luton Town, opportunities to be in the first team setup is limited for the 22-year-old defender, who has made seven senior appearances for the club he has spent his entire career at. He has other EFL experience with loan moves to Bristol Rovers, Gillingham and Cheltenham Town.

Baggott’s future at Portman Road is secured, having signed a new deal which will see him through to 2028 in Suffolk. He would become the second defender through the door at London Road should reports be believed, with suggestions from Football Insider stating that Wrexham‘s Tom O’Connor will also arrive in Peterborough on a permanent transfer.

Peterborough needed to be active today after a very tough start to the season. Making these loan moves will certainly bolster a squad and now the move for Elkan Baggott will give some much-needed strength and depth in the ranks. Baggott was sublime for Blackpool last season and a return to League One was likely, considering Ipswich made moves for players like Cedric Kipre early in the window. Between him and Tom O’Connor, Posh will have two very capable defenders and will hopefully turn around Darren Ferguson’s defensive woes after a tough 12 months at the back.
