Doncaster Rovers are targeting a late swoop to bring back Lincoln City forward Rob Street ahead of the transfer deadline.
Street, who fired Rovers to the League Two title last season during a prolific loan spell, has struggled for central opportunities since returning to Sincil Bank this summer.
McCann Wants Familiar Face
Grant McCann is determined to strengthen his attack before the window closes and is pushing hard to secure a striker capable of leading the line in League One. According to SportsBoom, the Doncaster boss has identified Street as the ideal candidate, having witnessed first-hand the 23-year-old’s impact last season.
Street scored 12 goals in just 22 league appearances at the Eco-Power Stadium, becoming a fans’ favourite as Rovers bounced back from play-off heartbreak to lift the League Two trophy. His blend of physicality, work rate and aerial threat made him a perfect fit for McCann’s system, and a return would provide a huge boost to Doncaster’s promotion ambitions.
The forward rejoined Lincoln in the summer but has largely been deployed in wide areas by head coach Michael Skubala. With Freddie Draper and James Collins ahead of him in the pecking order, and Everton loanee Francis Okoronkwo also arriving to compete for places, his path to a starting role through the middle looks increasingly blocked.

Street’s Career Path
Street began his career in the Crystal Palace academy and gained early senior experience through loans at Torquay United, Newport County and Shrewsbury Town. He opted to leave Selhurst Park permanently in 2023, joining Cheltenham Town where he scored three goals in 26 appearances during a difficult season that ended in relegation. Lincoln moved quickly to secure his services last summer, tying him down on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Despite his long-term deal, Street’s determination to prove himself as a goalscorer at League One level could yet lead him back to Doncaster. Sources indicate McCann has already held talks with alternative targets, but the Yorkshire club remain hopeful of convincing Lincoln to sanction a deal before the deadline.
Writer’s View
Street’s return to Doncaster would make a great deal of sense for all parties. Rovers know exactly what they would be getting in a player who thrived under McCann’s management, while the striker himself would benefit from the central role he craves.
For Lincoln, the depth provided by Draper, Collins and Okoronkwo means they could afford to let him leave, at least temporarily. With time running out, this could be one of the more logical moves of deadline day in League One.
