Yeovil Town Fans Turn On Manager After Capitulation

Yeovil Town threw away a three-goal lead at Huish Park as Gateshead staged a remarkable comeback to win 4-3, leaving home supporters calling for manager Mark Cooper’s exit.

The Glovers looked to be cruising towards victory after a dominant first-half display, only for a catastrophic second-half collapse to spark furious scenes in Somerset.

From Dream Start to Nightmare Finish

Josh Sims, Junior Morias and Harvey Greenslade all struck before the interval to put Yeovil 3-0 up and seemingly in complete control. Their attacking play was sharp and purposeful, with Gateshead unable to cope with the pace and power of the front line.

But just a minute after the restart, Kyle Hurst pulled one back for the visitors, and panic quickly set in. Former Yeovil favourite Frank Nouble inevitably added a second before substitute Kain Adom levelled the scores with just over 15 minutes left on the clock. By then, chants of “We want Cooper out” were ringing around the ground.

Deep into stoppage time, Adom pounced again, completing an extraordinary turnaround and sending Huish Park into open revolt. Cooper disappeared down the tunnel at the final whistle, followed by swathes of disillusioned supporters.

Fans Turn Toxic

The dramatic collapse has placed huge pressure on Cooper, who faced direct criticism from the stands throughout the second half. Many supporters voiced their anger online after the game, with some insisting they would not return until he left his role.

The Glovers’ record this season has already prompted concerns, but the manner of this defeat — snatching defeat from the jaws of victory — has left confidence in the manager at an all-time low. The atmosphere was described by fans in attendance as “toxic” and “the worst seen at Huish Park in years.”

Season at a Crossroads

Cooper, who has been in charge since October 2022, now faces serious questions over his future. While the first-half display offered signs of progress, the inability to manage momentum after conceding early in the second period highlighted defensive fragility and a lack of leadership on the pitch.

Yeovil’s next fixture will now take on added significance, with pressure mounting and discontent growing louder among the fanbase. The board must decide whether to back their manager or make a change before the season unravels further.

Writer’s View

For 45 minutes, Yeovil were everything supporters wanted: clinical, confident and entertaining. For the next 45, they were everything fans feared: disorganised, fragile and rudderless. Collapses of this magnitude are rarely forgotten, and the chants directed at Cooper underline the damage done to his relationship with the fanbase. Unless he can inspire an immediate response, the Huish Park crowd may have already made up their mind about his future.
