Yeovil Town Confirm Championship Youngster On Loan

Yeovil Town have completed the season-long loan signing of Birmingham City striker Ben Wodskou.

The 18-year-old becomes the second young Blue to join the Glovers this summer, following the arrival of defender Byron Pendleton.

Cooper Adds Firepower as Glovers Address Goal Concerns

Wodskou featured as a trialist in Yeovil’s recent 1–0 friendly defeat to Weston-super-Mare, coming off the bench after an hour. His performance in that outing, coupled with promising spells elsewhere, has convinced manager Mark Cooper to add him to a frontline that struggled for goals last season.

The teenager spent the second half of 2024–25 on loan at National League North side Rushall Olympic, where he netted twice in six appearances. Despite Rushall’s relegation, Wodskou stood out for his ability to handle senior football, something Cooper believes will translate well to the National League.

“Ben is a young striker with huge potential,” said the Yeovil boss. “He’s already shown he can handle the physicality of men’s football and has the hunger to make an impact. We’re excited to work with him this season.”

Wodskou signed a two-year professional contract with Birmingham in the summer of 2024 and has featured in their pre-season senior squad. At Yeovil, he joins a strikeforce that includes Aaron Jarvis and Tahvon Campbell, with Harvey Greenslade also pushing for minutes despite often operating from wide areas.

Cooper has been clear that attacking reinforcements were always part of his post-takeover rebuild plan. Following the defeat at Weston, he hinted that more signings could arrive ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Hartlepool United.

“We always said we were going to be late in our recruitment. We were not able to start recruiting until the middle of June. We have recruited a few and hopefully next week we will have some more ammunition coming in and some players at the top of the pitch which can really affect the goal.”

Last season, Yeovil finished as joint third-lowest scorers in the National League, managing just 51 goals in 46 games. Pre-season has shown some signs of improvement, with Greenslade scoring twice against Chippenham Town and both Jarvis and Campbell registering once each.

Writer’s View

Wodskou fits the mould of a typical Cooper forward: energetic, willing to learn, and with something to prove. While he may not be the marquee name Glovers fans are hoping for, the former Rushall loanee adds depth and a bit of unpredictability. With more additions expected before the Hartlepool opener, this signing looks like a smart early step toward solving Yeovil’s attacking issues.
