Birmingham City‘s efforts to sign Marvin Ducksch have hit a roadblock as Werder Bremen are continuing to hold up their sale of the striker.
The Blues have been linked with the German forward, with reports earlier this month stating that Chris Davies’ side were closing in on an agreement for the 31-year-old. That news came days after the sale of Alfie May was agreed to League One title favourites Huddersfield Town for a fee in the region of £1.2 million.
Update In Ducksch Move Revealed
In a new report from GiveMeSport, a potential deal for Marvin Ducksch has been held up as Bremen search for a new striker to replace the outgoing forward, who is also linked with Greek Super League side PAOK. Currently, the North German side is trying to sign Portuguese forward Andre Silva from RB Leipzig, following his loan spell at the club last season.
Ducksch is not the only striker that City are currently targeting, with Bojan Miovski another option from Girona. The former Aberdeen striker has struggled for game time in Catalonia, leading to interest from Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers. With injury concerns around Ducksch after picking up a knock in pre-season, it is unlikely that the former Borussia Dortmund man will start Birmingham’s opening game against Ipswich Town next week, should a move be completed.
Bremen have already conducted business with English clubs this summer, securing Isaac Schmidt on loan from Leeds United after he failed to make an impact during their Championship promotion push last season.

This is fairly common practice within football transfers so whilst this holdup in a deal may be frustrating for Birmingham City, it was likely expected. Marvin Ducksch is not far away from recovering from his calf injury and with no standout leading striker at Werder Bremen right now, Chris Davies will have to wait to secure his man. It won’t be a blow to their preparations for the opening game of the season against Ipswich, with both Jay Stansfield and Kyogo Furuhashi at full fitness and Lyndon Dykes as cover for those two likely starters.
