Blackpool‘s chances of signing Jerry Yates have taken a slight hit, according to a fresh report in their chase of the Swansea City man.
The 28-year-old, who had a fruitful spell at Bloomfield Road spanning three years, is set to leave his current Championship home this summer with multiple clubs, including the Tangerines, pursuing his signature. He spent last season on loan at Derby County, with 10 goals in 42 appearances, but a return to John Eustace’s side is remote following their recruitment of both Patrick Agyemang and Carlton Morris this window.
Chances Revealed For Blackpool
Recent updates have stated that Yates’ preference has been to stay in the second tier, but with many clubs recruiting other strikers over the course of the summer, his options are beginning to dwindle. Steve Bruce has been open of his desire to bring the former Rotherham United man back to the Seasiders, but admitted no talks had taken place between the two parties.
Now, in a new update for EFL Analysis, transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed the current state of play for Blackpool in their hopes of signing Yates.
“They do want him, but the player isn’t that keen to drop down from the Championship at this point. So I think Blackpool accept that.
“If it carries on into August, maybe they’ve got half a chance. but it’s a long shot.”
He is not the only option for the League One side this window, with reports from last week revealing Dale Taylor is another option to partner Niall Ennis this season. Bailey has also provided an update on his situation, stating that Championship clubs are also weighing up moves for the former Wigan Athletic man as his exit from Nottingham Forest looks assured.

Writers’ View
This is a new, but unsurprising update for Blackpool in their hopes to sign Jerry Yates. His preference to stay in the Championship has been known for the past week, so it is largely expected that The Tangerines will miss out on a reunion with their former player. Of course, nothing can be ruled out but with no talks having taken place, according to Steve Bruce, the chances seem remote right now. What will be more alarming is the latest on Dale Taylor, with second-tier clubs also looking at him. With these two new revelations, Blackpool may need to examine alternative options on the market right now.
