Wrexham have signed Empoli left-back and New Zealand International Liberato Cacace for an undisclosed fee, as reported on the club’s official website.
Cacace has signed a three-year deal with the Welsh club.
Who Is Liberato Cacece?
Cacace is a 24-year-old left-back who has represented Empoli 76 times in Serie A action after joining them from Belgian side St Truiden in 2022 on an initial loan deal.
He began his professional career with his hometown club, Wellington Phoenix. Two impressive seasons with the Phoenix saw Cacace move to Europe with St Truiden in Belgium.
In 2021, he represented his country at the COVID-delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo, even scoring the first goal of the tournament. Cacace then found himself on his way to Italy and Empoli, initially on loan but the move was eventually made permanent.
During his time in Italy, the defender was nominated for the Best Men’s FIFA XI Award after leading his country to the OFC Nations Cup as captain and player of the tournament.

Delighted To Join Wrexham
After putting pen to paper on his contract, Cacace spoke of his delight at signing for the Red Dragons.
“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for this historic Club, and I just can’t wait to get started.”
“Looking from the outside, what they are creating here is something I want to be part of. The family they have here – it’s a tight-knit Club and that enticed me.”
“I had a great phone call with the manager, and after that, I really wanted to sign.”
For his part, manager Phil Parkinson is eager to get his new man involved with the squad as soon as possible.
“We are delighted to welcome Libby to Wrexham and look forward to integrating him with the squad on our return home.”
Writer’s View
This is perhaps a move that is not getting the attention it deserves. Cacace is an established international who has experience of playing in Serie A and could prove to be an astute piece of business from the Wrexham hierarchy.
