Luton Town See £500,000 Bid For Attacker Rejected

Luton Town have seen two bids rejected for Aberdeen winger Shayden Morris as they attempt to bolster their squad for the new League One campaign.

The Hatters are understood to have offered over £500,000 for the 23-year-old, but the Scottish Premiership side are holding firm on their valuation.

Luton Chase Wide Reinforcement as Aberdeen Hold Firm

Morris, who began his career at Southend United before joining Fleetwood Town in 2018, has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Pittodrie. After signing for Aberdeen in August 2022, he made 49 appearances in all competitions last season, providing 13 assists and scoring five goals. His pace and direct style made him one of the standout wide players in the Scottish top flight, and he was instrumental in their Scottish Cup triumph over Celtic.

Luton are eager to reshape their attack after back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and Championship, but their pursuit of Morris is now in doubt. According to reports from the Press and Journal, the most recent offer was well below Aberdeen’s valuation. With European football secured and a Europa League play-off on the horizon, Aberdeen are reluctant to weaken their side.

Morris played a key role in that success, delivering the cross that was turned into the net by Kasper Schmeichel in the Scottish Cup final. His performances earned him the club’s Player of the Season award, a moment he described as hugely emotional.

“It is a massive moment for me and my family. For it to be voted by the fans is a massive feeling, because I know it hasn’t always been easy times. I have always trusted in myself and what the coaches say to me. I just wanted to work hard and give everything I can every time I step on the pitch, and for it to be rewarded like that is such a massive achievement,” he told the BBC.

The reports suggest Aberdeen are focused on strengthening their squad, not losing key players. With revenue from European competition set to boost their finances, they are under no pressure to sell. The sense at Pittodrie is that Luton, once a Premier League side just two years ago, may now move on to alternative targets.

Writer’s View

Luton’s approach for Shayden Morris is understandable given his pace, creativity, and growing experience in competitive settings. However, the timing could not be worse. Aberdeen are riding the wave of cup success and European qualification, which gives them the financial freedom and ambition to retain their best players.

Morris would be a marquee signing for a League One side, but unless Luton are willing to break their wage and fee structure, they may have to turn their attention elsewhere. For now, it looks like the Hatters will have to remain patient in the wide areas.
