Leicester City Interested In Free Agent Deal

Leicester City are interested in signing Harry Toffolo on a free transfer, but require at least one exit to facilitate a move.

Marti Cifuentes has finally taken charge of The Foxes after months of uncertainty surrounding former boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, and the Spaniard is beginning to examine his squad for next season. There have not been any incoming signings and just three outgoing so far, with Danny Ward’s move to Wrexham being the most high-profile.

Toffolo Move Requires Movement

According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, City could make free agent full-back Harry Toffolo the first signing of the Cifuentes era, but requires sales in order to make a move for the 29-year-old. Financial uncertainty in the East Midlands has reared its head once more, meaning that players have to be sold to make new signings, such as current left-back Victor Kristiansen.

The Danish international has been a target for Everton as far back as April, but they are joined by fellow Premier League side – and Toffolo’s former employers – Nottingham Forest in pursuing Kristiansen. The Leicester Mercury reported earlier this month that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have joined Sunderland and Roma as potential future destinations.

Kristiansen joined from 2023 from FC Copenhagen and has played 45 times for the club, but had no part in their last Championship campaign, instead being loaned out to Bologna in Serie A. He played a large part last season, with 30 Premier League appearances as they finished best of the promoted clubs ahead of Southampton and Ipswich Town.

Toffolo is on the search for a new club after being released by Forest this summer, and the former Huddersfield Town man is being examined by other EFL sides like Coventry City and Norwich City both in the mix according to Football League World.

Leicester have been hit with financial worries before, and look set to start this season with a points deduction due to a PSR breach. This will likely explain their hesitance to invest as soon as Marti Cifuentes joined the side, and seem to be looking at free agents like Harry Toffolo. A victim of Forest’s heavy investment upon promotion, the 29-year-old has a lot to offer still and with Leicester he will join a side as a great replacement to Victor Kristiansen in a competitive side.
