Norwich City have been urged to win the face for Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass by Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie.
The situation at Hillsborough has left the Owls in a precarious situation ahead of the new season. With wages remaining unpaid to a series of players and staff, they run the risk of losing a number of key stars.
It has also been claimed that some of the top talents in the squad will be sold in order to raise much needed funds, although yesterday’s news that a takeover is edging closer may have eased those fears somewhat. Still, this is still in its early stages and the club may need to rely on an advance from a potential buyer to see them through.
One name heavily linked with an exit is attacker Josh Windass. The 31-year-old has been a prominent fixture of the Wednesday playing squad since his arrival in 2020 and scored the winning goal in the League One play-off final against Barnsley in 2023.
The former Wigan Athletic man has attracted interest over the past couple of years, including Brazilian giants Santos. However, there are now several Championship teams keen on his signature, including Norwich, Wrexham, Derby County and Coventry City.
Norwich Told To Step Up Interest
Norwich had an underwhelming campaign last season, finishing one place below Wednesday in 13th. This is despite possessing one of the division’s best attacks in Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent.
Sainz has already departed Carrow Road for FC Porto, whilst Sargent is tipped to move to the Premier League. As such, Windass would be an ideal candidate to plug at least one of the gaps, albeit from a deeper role than the USA international.

It’s a signing which Hendrie believes would be ‘excellent’ for Liam Manning’s side. Speaking to Football League World, the ex-Aston Villa midfielder said:
“[It’s] no surprise that clubs are looking and sniffing around him because of his potential, and I’ve said his goals and his creativity threat – he brings that.
“Players are leaving the football club, and we’re not too far away from the season starting.
“It would be a great signing for Norwich City, as it would be for Middlesbrough, because I just think he’s got that hunger and desire to fit into most sides in the Championship.”
Writer’s View
Windass would be a top signing for almost any Championship team. He is a player who has bags of experience in the second tier and has shown his worth in front of goal over the years. Norwich have already lost winger Sainz and stand to lose striker Sargent, although they have already signed another centre forward. Windass is a player who operates a little deeper and could be the perfect tonic to new arrival Mathias Kvistgaarden, who has never played in England before.
