West Bromwich Albion will not sign David Brooks after previous reports suggested he could head to The Hawthorns.
The Express and Star stated last week that Albion, now under the stewardship of former Hull City player Ryan Mason, were interested in a deal for David Brooks as his AFC Bournemouth future looked uncertain. The 27-year-old had limited minutes for The Cherries as they thrived under Andoni Iraola, making just nine starts in the Premier League.
Rumour Denied
However, these reports have since been quashed as BBC West Midlands journalist Steve Hermon has revealed that Albion will not make a move for Brooks. The winger has previous experience in the Championship with Sheffield United and Southampton, and earned promotion with the latter through the playoffs two seasons ago.
This latest development comes after new reports emerged that Albion are also interested in the Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Kelman. After a very successful loan at Leyton Orient which saw the American win the League One Golden Boot, his future at Loftus Road remains up in the air.
West Brom look likely to have to make a move in the market for their wide areas, as Tom Fellows remains a figure of interest for Premier League sides. He won the Under-21 Euros with England last weekend, and now his international duty is over, clubs like Everton may make moves for the former Crawley Town loanee.
Writers’ View
This is a blow for West Bromwich Albion, albeit only if Tom Fellows leaves the club this summer. David Brooks would have been a great replacement with experience both in the Premier League and Championship and a great assistance to Josh Maja and the other forward players in the side. However, with Charlie Kelman now linked with Albion, it may not be as big of a blow as the American forward is ready to make a step up to the Championship following a blistering loan spell for Leyton Orient. Ryan Mason’s side need to start making moves now as only Nat Phillips has come through the door so far this summer.
