Portsmouth Battle European Side For Promising Winger

Portsmouth are in a battle with Eredivisie giants AZ Alkmaar for the services of Brescia winger Patrick Nuamah.

The 19-year-old winger has emerged as a promising talent for the Italian side and has played 23 times this season for the club in Serie B. However, Brescia have been in the headlines for the wrong reasons this month, with the historic Lombardy side going bankrupt and look set to be relegated further down the football pyramid.

Pompey Pounce For Nuamah

With Brescia now in financial trouble, sides are circling for their best talents, and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Portsmouth are interested in signing the winger, who is set to be released by his boyhood club. However, they are not alone in their interest, with Dutch side AZ also looking at the 19-year-old, who scored two goals in both league and cup.

Forwards have been a key point of interest for the Hampshire side as they saw forward Kusini Yengi leave upon the expiry of his contract, as well as former Norwich City loanee Kaide Gordon return to parent club Liverpool after his loan ended. John Mousinho’s side are already recruiting in the area, with Australian talisman Adrian Segecic poised to join on a free transfer.

The attacking midfielder was one of the standout players within the A-League and was the joint-top scorer in the division with 13 goals. Pompey will however have to pay a compensation fee to Sydney FC as he turned 21 last month.

Writers’ View

With Brescia in turmoil and many of their talents set to leave either for fees or on free transfers, it is understandable why clubs are targeting their younger prospects. Nuamah has already established himself within the Italian side as a reliable starter at his age although he did not light the world on fire. Portsmouth are seemingly wanting a younger profile to their attack alongside stalwart Colby Bishop, and would have four players aged 21 or younger should they bring in Nuamah alongside Harvey Blair, Abdoulaye Kamara and Tommy Waddingham.
