Portsmouth Face Premier League Opposition In Chase For 21-Year-Old

Portsmouth are weighing up a move for highly rated West Brom forward Isaac Price after his international exploits with Northern Ireland.

As reported by SportsBoom, the newly promoted Championship side face competition from Premier League duo Sunderland and Burnley for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Pompey Tracking Rapidly Rising Northern Ireland Talent

Price has enjoyed a meteoric rise at international level, scoring nine goals in just 22 caps for Michael O’Neill’s side despite limited game time at club level. His sharp finishing and maturity on the ball have quickly established him as one of Northern Ireland’s brightest young prospects.

That progress has not gone unnoticed at Fratton Park, where Portsmouth are reportedly keeping close tabs on the West Brom attacker as they build for life in the second tier. The south coast club are planning an ambitious summer window, and Price’s profile fits their strategy of targeting high-upside talent.

The former Everton academy graduate moved to the Baggies in January from Belgian side Standard Liège, where he had spent two seasons gaining valuable first-team experience. West Brom paid around £2.5 million for the versatile forward, who signed a four-year deal upon arrival.

Despite featuring in just 15 matches for West Brom—13 of those starts—his performances for Northern Ireland have pushed him into the spotlight. He netted regularly for his country in 2024/25, further justifying the interest from clubs both in the Championship and Premier League.

Sunderland and Burnley, who are preparing for life in the top flight after successful promotion campaigns, have also made early enquiries, but it is Pompey who appear to be showing sustained interest at this stage. Fellow Championship side Millwall are also believed to have scouted him.

Crucially, West Brom are in no rush to sell. With four years remaining on his current contract, they are expected to demand a significant fee if Price is to move on. The Baggies narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season and see the Northern Ireland international as key to their own push for promotion.

Writer’s View

Isaac Price’s name may not yet be well known among Championship fans, but his international form suggests it’s only a matter of time. For Portsmouth, this would represent a serious statement of intent—targeting a player who not only boasts Premier League interest but also a long-term contract with a fellow promotion contender. While a deal won’t come cheap, Pompey’s ambition under John Mousinho seems clear, and Price could be a major addition as they look to thrive back in the second tier.
