Barrow Pick Up Another Signing In Quick Succession

Barrow have announced their third new signing of the window this afternoon, with two moves shortly being followed up by Walsall’s Jack Earing. The midfielder will join the Bluebirds on a one year contract.

A Host Of New Recruits

Scott Smith has signed for Barrow following the near decimation of their squad due to many expiring contracts. The Wigan Athletic midfielder will provide experience and important leadership for the League Two side. The 24-year-old has made 85 appearances for the Latics since returning from a loan spell with Torquay United in January 2023.

Another arrival at the Brick Community Stadium is Inness Cameron. The striker, imperious in stature, also joins from Kilmarnock after netting six times in 59 appearances. Earing will be part of the ambitious renovation of an evolving squad for a short initial stay.

With the consideration of his eleven month knee injury in 2023, the midfielder’s Walsall career slowed slightly towards its culmination. In Earing’s final season with the Saddlers, the 26-year-old started just four times, providing two goals in 20 league appearances.

Glowing Interviews

Ahead of this move to Barrow, Earing responded to the club’s media team in an interview:

“I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going. With the squad we’ve got already, I know we’re capable of competing at the top end of the table.

“Having played against Barrow in the past, I know it’s such a difficult team to play against, and hopefully I can add a bit of quality to the team.”

The Cumbrian side’s manager, Andy Whing, had extremely high praise for his new signing and is looking forward to seeing how the 26-year-old fits in to his system following unfortunate interruptions of injury setbacks:

“I’m thrilled to welcome Jack to the Football Club. Jack’s ability at this level is undeniable, he’s had a bit of bad luck with injuries and feels he has a point to prove because of the football he’s missed.

“When I spoke to him, he was eager to join us, and he fits in with how we want to play and the type of character we want on and off the pitch.”

Considering Barrow’s need to rebuild, this is another important deal done early in the summer window. Earing, Smith and Cameron will all likely play crucial roles in helping to achieve a play-off push in League Two next season.

The 26-year-old has been hampered with injuries for consistent spells of his Walsall career and will be looking to reignite some of the form he enjoyed prior to these setbacks. Moving across the division to Barrow may be ideal, with a view in mind to even finish higher than Walsall next season considering their dreadful collapse last campaign.
