Queen’s Park Rangers, Oxford United and Wrexham are three Championship clubs who are reportedly interested in signing Barnsley forward Davis Keillor-Dunn.
The 27-year-old has registered 26 goals and assists in his first season at Oakwell, after joining the Tykes from Mansfield Town in the summer of 2024.
Keillor-Dunn’s Superb Season
It’s fair to say Barnsley’s season didn’t go as planned, finishing in 12th place, 17 points off the play-offs, as they are condemned to another season in the third tier.
Despite this, Keillor-Dunn has proved to be a shining light in a struggling side, scoring 18 goals and registering a further seven assists in 42 League One games in his first season playing in the third teir.
He moved to Oakwell for a reported fee of £700,000 on transfer deadline day in August 2024, but now could make a further step up to the Championship with interest from multiple second-tier outlets.
Barnsley’s Asking Price
However, according to reports, there are fears that the Tykes’ asking price will be too high to be worth putting in an official bid for the Englishman.
Keillor-Dunn has two years left on his Barnsley contract, signing a three-year deal last summer, which may mean a deal might be hard to come by.
Barnsley chairman Neerav Parekh told the Yorkshire Post in March that he can no longer be investing the amount of money he is into the club, stating:
“We will fund, but we cannot keep funding these amounts every single season. At the end of the day, there has to be some sort of sustainability.”
With an asset such as Keillor-Dunn on their hands, selling the 27-year-old would surely be one of Barnsley’s biggest deals and a massive opportunity to cash in on some big money just one year after signing him, should a deal be negotiated.
Writer’s View
Although the striker still has two years to run on his current contract, chairman Parekh has made it very clear he wants to make the club more sustainable, and making a profit on Keillor-Dunn could potentially be the start of something new for the Tykes.
With Barnsley not in a great place both on and off the pitch, if they were to sell their top scorer, a big summer transfer window would be needed if they want to try and gain promotion out of this league. Losing his goals would certainly be a big blow for manager Connor Hourihane ahead of an important 2025/26 campaign.
