Leyton Orient Star Targeted By Championship Side

Leyton Orient star forward Jamie Donley is a transfer target for a Championship club.

The Northern Irishman, who is currently on loan at Brisbane Road from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, has been part of a stellar frontline alongside Charlie Kelman and Dan Agyei. The O’s future is still uncertain, with their League One playoff semi-final against Stockport County perfectly in the balance ahead of the second leg.

Enquiry Lodged With Spurs

According to a report from Birmingham World, Championship side West Bromwich Albion have sent an enquiry to Spurs to sign Donley, who has contributed eight goals and 10 assists across Orient’s season. It is believed that The Baggies, who are managerless after sacking Tony Mowbray, are assessing whether Ange Postecoglou’s side would sanction another loan.

Donley, in his first loan away from his parent club, has played 50 times for Richie Wellens’ club and switched international allegiances from England to Northern Ireland and made his senior debut for Michael O’Neill’s side in the March internationals.

The report also states that Donley’s focus remains on Orient’s playoff campaign, with the 20-year-old playing the full 90 minutes against Stockport in the first leg. Spaces in the Tottenham first team are limited, with Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear both being given game time in the Premier League this season, with the latter heading out on loan to West Brom in January.

Writers’ View

With a stellar season at Leyton Orient under the belt for Jamie Donley it would have been expected that interest from the Championship would emerge. West Bromwich Albion need to rebuild their attack, no matter who the manager is at The Hawthorns, with players like Grady Diangana and John Swift already heading elsewhere and current stars like Josh Maja and Tom Fellows both facing Premier League interest in the past six months. However, should The O’s manage to win promotion, Spurs may opt to keep their emerging talent at Brisbane Road next season rather than entertain other offers.
