Jordan Gabriel is expected to have no shortage of suitors this summer, with the experienced defender already linked with moves to League One and League Two clubs following his confirmed departure from Blackpool.
Steve Bruce announced Gabriel’s exit prior to the release of the club’s retained list, bringing an end to a five-year spell at Bloomfield Road. The right-back initially joined the Seasiders on loan from Nottingham Forest in 2020 before signing permanently, and he went on to make 142 appearances, helping the club win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in his debut season.
Multiple Clubs Interested In Gabriel
Doncaster Rovers, Reading, and Burton Albion are among the clubs exploring a potential deal for the full-back. League Two champions Stockport County and play-off hopefuls Notts County have also reportedly registered an interest, along with a handful of unnamed sides across the EFL.
Gabriel struggled for regular minutes during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, often used from the bench as Brighton loanee Odel Offiah cemented his place in the starting line-up. Despite that, Bruce was full of praise for the departing defender following his final appearance.
“I’d like to say a big well done to Jordan Gabriel, it’s probably his final game for the club – he’s been a terrific servant,” Bruce said. “He started really well for me, and came out of the team because his wife gave birth.
“Odel then took his position and results went well. That’s football – it can give you a kicking now and then. He gives you everything he’s got, he’s athletic and quick, and has never let the squad down.”
Gabriel now looks set to assess his next move, with a number of clubs eager to secure a versatile defender with proven League One pedigree.

Writer’s View
Jordan Gabriel’s time at Blackpool will be fondly remembered by many, particularly for his role in their promotion to the Championship. His departure doesn’t come as a huge surprise given recent selection choices, but his character, versatility, and athleticism make him an ideal target for ambitious sides across the third and fourth tiers.
A move to a club like Reading or Burton could offer him the chance to reset and re-establish himself as a first-choice full-back. With plenty of experience still in his legs at 26, Gabriel has the tools to be a real asset wherever he lands next.
