Former Lincoln City Hero Determined To Keep On Playing

Former Lincoln City shot-stopper Paul Farman has made it clear he intends to carry on his career in professional football, despite not yet knowing where his next move will be.

Farman was one of several players released by Barrow as they concluded their League Two campaign and prepared for a summer of transition. Now 34, the experienced goalkeeper insists he still has plenty left in the tank and is not yet ready to retire.

Speaking to BBC Cumbria, Farman said his commitment to the game remains as strong as ever.

“I have always said that I want to look back on my career with no regrets, and I do not want to have any regrets when I have to retire, so I’m giving myself a right go at playing again,” he explained. “I feel bang at it. I feel as sharp as ever when I have been playing.”

Farman added that his physical condition remains excellent, highlighting his consistent training and rare injury record.

“I train every day, very rarely injured, so my head is fully focused on playing. I love playing games, I love being around it, I love the camaraderie side of it, being round the team.”

The former Lincoln City and Stevenage keeper joined Barrow in 2021 and quickly became a reliable figure between the posts. During his time at Holker Street, Farman played a vital role in the club’s survival battles and mid-table stabilisation efforts.

Now, as he prepares for the next stage of his journey, he admits uncertainty remains.

“Obviously, this year, who knows where it will be. At the moment I’ve got no idea myself. Hopefully, things become a bit more busy when the play-offs have finished, but I think you’ve just got to keep your fingers crossed.”

Farman’s blend of experience, fitness, and professionalism is likely to appeal to clubs looking for a dependable figure in goal, especially in League Two or the National League.

Writer’s View

Paul Farman’s desire to keep playing is no surprise given his reputation as a dedicated and reliable presence in goal. His release from Barrow may simply reflect the club’s shift towards a younger squad, rather than any decline in his own performance.

At 34, he offers a wealth of experience and leadership that could prove invaluable to teams aiming for promotion or stability in the lower tiers. Clubs in need of a seasoned goalkeeper would do well to take a close look at Farman this summer.
