The business end of the EFL season is upon us, and The Real EFL Preview Show returns with another jam-packed episode as Kyle Kenneley joins Gary Hutchinson to dissect all the key talking points heading into the weekend.
It’s been a dramatic week off the pitch, with three Championship clubs parting ways with their managers. First up is Cardiff City, who have shown Omer Riza the door following a disappointing run of form. With club captain Aaron Ramsey stepping in as caretaker, all eyes will be on how the Welsh legend transitions into a leadership role off the pitch.
Norwich City also made headlines with the sacking of Johannes Hoff Thorup. The Canaries, who had high hopes of returning to the Premier League, have struggled for consistency, and former England midfielder Jack Wilshere has been tasked with steadying the ship on an interim basis. Can his fresh voice spark a late surge?
Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion parted company with Tony Mowbray after a string of underwhelming performances. Club stalwart James Morrison takes temporary charge, bringing both passion and experience to a side still clinging to play-off ambitions.
On the pitch, the show turns its attention to three huge fixtures across the leagues.
In the Championship, Hull City host Derby County in a high-stakes affair. Hull sit just two points above the drop zone and know a win could seal their survival. Derby, revitalised under John Eustace since his February appointment, are charging toward the play-offs. Whatever happens this weekend, the Rams’ trajectory under Eustace suggests a bright future—regardless of which division they’re in next season.
In League One, Burton Albion face Cambridge United in a tense relegation six-pointer. The Brewers are clinging to safety on goal difference, buoyed by a game in hand and two crucial home ties to come. Cambridge, meanwhile, are reeling after a crushing defeat to Leyton Orient and desperately need a win to keep their survival hopes alive.
And in League Two, Salford City take on Colchester United in a game with big play-off implications. Salford looked down and out last week, but a win over Morecambe has reignited belief. Colchester remain in the mix despite a setback at Doncaster—can they bounce back in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off?
