First Prediction For Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Ellis Simms To Score – 12/5
The Sky Blues’ striker has not been able to repeat his heroics from last season but he is still a dangerous player on his day. Under Frank Lampard, this side has stepped up all over the pitch and Simms was no different, with his highlight of the season being his game-clinching brace over Sheffield Wednesday back in February. Whilst Haji Wright is the key goalscorer for City, the former Everton striker may go under the radar and could catch West Brom off guard. Simms has found great success against The Baggies, with six goals in five matches and the 24-year-old only scoring more goals against his former club in Sunderland across his career.
Second Prediction For Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 9/10
Derby games can always be fiesty encounters and this may not be any different. West Brom enter the game having finally broken their five-game winless streak against Watford and have averaged 1.21 goals per game across the season. They will be missing top scorer Josh Maja for this contest but can find goals from Southampton loanee Adam Armstrong, Karlan Grant and Alex Mowatt. Coventry have all of their attacking threats available for this contest barring former Baggies man Brandon Thomas-Asante. The Sky Blues have stepped up in front of goal since Lampard took charge, and have a better scoring average than their opponents, with 1.4 goals per game.
Third Prediction For Coventry City vs West Bromwich Albion – Coventry City To Win – 11/10
The Sky Blues’ good run has got them back into the playoffs and this is likely their biggest challenge remaining. A win for either side will have massive implications and set them up nicely to hold on to a play-off spot with three games to go following the full time whistle. Whilst this has been a fixture dominated by West Brom, the atmosphere around Coventry and Frank Lampard’s men, combined with how dangerous they have been in the past few months, means that The Sky Blues are likely favourites in this game. As with all rivalries, expect fireworks and a close encounter which could go either way, but with key striker Josh Maja out, City may be able to outscore The Baggies.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head
Coventry City enter this game occupying the last spot in the playoffs and in an advantageous position compared to the teams behind them. With two games against the bottom two in Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle, followed by a final day clash against Middlesbrough, The Sky Blues’ fate is in their own hands. A win over their West Midlands rivals could see them move into a more advantageous fifth place, with Bristol City and Sunderland also facing off in this weekend’s fixtures. In their last five, City have won games against The Black Cats and Portsmouth, drew to Hull City in their last match, and suffered two losses at the hands of title challengers Burnley and Sheffield United. The draw to The Tigers could be cause for concern as they largely failed to breach Ivor Pandur’s net thanks to the Croatian’s seven saves and some goal-line clearances from the defence.
West Brom enter the game having finally put to rest a five game winless streak with a victory over Watford. Their drop off has seen them slip out of the top six, with Coventry and Bristol City both overtaking Tony Mowbray’s side. In their other matches, they lost three on the spin to Sunderland, Norwich City and The Robins, and like Coventry were also held to a draw by Hull. A win on Saturday will take The Baggies back into the top six on goal difference, unless Middlesbrough win by two goals or more against Plymouth Argyle. Their remaining three fixtures see them face three relegation-threatened sides in Cardiff City, Luton Town and Derby County.
Since 2021, this has been a fixture dominated by West Bromwich Albion, with five wins, one draw and one loss. That solitary Coventry win came in 2022, with Victor Gyokeres scoring a last-gasp penalty for Mark Robins’ side. Only two of the past seven contests have seen both sides score within the game.
