Our Three Predictions For Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield United

  • Prediction 1 – Sheffield United To Win – 57/100
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20
  • Prediction 3 – Over 3.5 Goals Scored – 21/10

First Prediction For Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield United – Sheffield United To Win – 57/100

Two defeats on the spin have Sheffield United reeling, and now outside of the top two. This is very much a promotion race that will go down to the wire. The Blades need a game like this to steady their ship, and a win is very  likely against an Argyle side that is inconsistent in picking up points when needed and are now bottom of the league. United will be taking their second best away record in the Championship on the long trip south, their last away trip saw them lose only for the fourth time on the road, and they have won 12 of their 20 away. Plymouth have won more than they have lost at home, and that has seen them keep within touching distance of safety for a while, and even though they won their last home game, a 2-1 win against Norwich City, they had not won in three before that. United should have too much for their hosts, and get back to winning ways.

Second Prediction For Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield United – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20

Despite having the fourth worst points record in the Championship, The Pilgrims have had no trouble finding the net. They have scored 34 goals so far, while conceding only one goal more. That of course is why they are struggling at the wrong end, they ship far too many, in fact 81 overall. While Sheffield United may not be prolific in front of goal, 56 overall, with 26 of those in away games, they should be able to bolster their goal difference in this game. The home side have let in seven in the past three home games, and 11 in the last six. United’s need is greater, you could argue, and the fact they need to get a win so not to let their rivals jump further ahead at this late stage, the Plymouth goal could be peppered all afternoon.

Third Prediction For Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield United – Over 3.5 Goals Scored – 21/20

Plymouth just cannot keep teams out. A huge 81 goals have been conceded, and any team wanting to up their goal tally, and indeed their goal difference will want to take as many shots as they can at this woeful defence. Yes, it did improve for a short while, but they are slipping into bad ways again at the worst time. United will want to show they are very much still in the hunt for automatic promotion, and even though they have been kept scoreless in the last two games, they will use this opportunity to show they still have the firepower to gain one of those two treasured promotion places. Argyle will be good for a goal here as their home record suggests they have enough to scare their opponents, so we can look for a high scoring game.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Scottish striker Ryan Hardie leads Plymouth Argyle goal scorers with eight, and he still remains the main threat for the team in green. The 28 year old also has three assists, but he cannot fight this relegation scrap alone and will need help from his teammates. Sierra Leone forward Mustapha Bundu could be the man to help his counterpart, with six goals and five assists. The pair will need to be on top form if Plymouth are to survive. Unfortunately for them, and manager Miron Muslic, it is the issues at the back that are of bigger concern. Nikola Katic, Julio Pleguezuelo have tried to keep things tight, but the Croatian and Spaniard are feeling the effects of a worn down defence that has put Plymouth in this perilous position from practically the start of the season. Safety is only five points away but with only the same amount of games left, and with a promotion chasing team up next, the battle to avoid the drop may be lost.

Sheffield United are in a titanic tussle with Burnley and Leeds United at the top of the Championship. It really is too close to call and each set of games brings a new leader to the top. Chris Wilder has seen it all before of course, and will need to draw on those experiences to steer his side back into the top two, and will view this game as a great chance to get back into the top two. He will not be taking anything for granted though, so will set his team out to win big. Tyrese Campbell has 10 goals in this campaign and leads a decent attack, that has also seen Gustavo Hamer net eight times. They could be hunting goals aplenty in this match against the worst defence in the league. Keeping things tight at the back will be crucial in the run in, and Harrison Burrows has been a constant in the back line with 36 appearances, also chipping in with five goals and three assists. Alongside him has been the reliable Bosnia-Herzegovina Anel Ahmedhodzic. If these two remain fit for the remainder of the season they still have a great chance of a return to the Premier League.
