Top Flight Boss Linked With Swansea City Vacancy

Swansea City are reportedly admirers of Hibernian manager David Gray following his exploits with the Edinburgh club.

The 36-year-old, who is a club legend at Easter Road, has his side as the ‘best of the rest’ in SPFL and prepare to face runaway league leaders Celtic in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup this weekend.

Swans Admire Gray

According to reports from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Gray has become a figure of interest for Swansea City, who are in the process of finding a replacement for Luke Williams after sacking him in February. Former Luton Town midfielder Alan Sheehan is in interim charge in South Wales and is so far unbeaten in his two games in charge.

Sheehan has previously put his name forward to take the post permanently which has not yet been ruled out by club officials, whilst ex-Oxford United boss Des Buckingham and Eric Ramsey have been ruled out of the running according to Wales Online.

It has been confirmed that the 38-year-old, who has been at The Jacks since 2023 and briefly took charge after the sacking of Michael Duff, will remain at the helm of City until the March international break in three games time.

David Gray has given Hibs a new lease of life, best demonstrated by his 15-game unbeaten run at Easter Road, culminating in their dramatic Edinburgh Derby win over Hearts. He is a legendary figure at the Scottish club, so it would be an interesting move to leave now for Swansea City. The Jacks can certainly offer him a lot more resources and competition than the Scottish leagues but with how he is managing in the SPFL right now, it should be a very carefully considered move by the former Preston North End player. Swansea’s patience in appointing a successor does also give current interim Alan Sheehan a shot at a permanent gig, which he is open to taking.

Lewis Gray joined The Real EFL in October 2023, concentrating on news, transfers, and predictions, particularly within League Two. A journalist since 2021, he formerly worked at Salford Now, covering local sports and serving as sports editor. He provided in-depth coverage of Salford City FC’s 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns. Holding a First-Class Honours degree in Multimedia Journalism from the University of Salford, Lewis is devoted to giving lower-league clubs the attention they deserve in an era dominated by top-flight football.
