John Doolan believes his Accrington Stanley team had a “perfect night” as they claimed victory over MK Dons.
Goals from Tyler Walton and Joe Whitmarsh in the first half gave The ‘Owd Reds a vital three points on a night where many of the teams battling for safety also claimed big results. Morecambe‘s win against AFC Wimbledon means the gap to the bottom two remains at seven points.
Doolan Reacts To Win
Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire following the result over a managerless Milton Keynes side, John Doolan said:
“A perfect night if you like, a win and a clean sheet for everyone at the club. Brilliant.
“In the first half we played some really good football. We matched them in terms of what they do. So we won the ball back, we pressed them high up the pitch, we asked them a couple of questions. When we did, we got the ball in the areas.
“In recent games, we lacked that quality of putting it in the box or when we have put it in the box, we’ve got no end product. Tonight, you’ve seen it was a great ball from Seb [Quirk] and what a great header from Tyler [Walton]. It was a fantastic first goal.”
They play somewhat of a local derby in their next game when they head to Barrow, with a win on the day seeing Stanley possibly rise up to as high as 19th place.

It was a much-needed win considering the context of what else happened on Tuesday night. Everyone in the bottom five picked up points and in the case of Morecambe and Accrington, claimed all three. John Doolan’s side will want to show that quality more regularly and their next game can be a continuation of that with Andy Whing’s Barrow side struggling as of late but did pick up a third away win of the season against promotion challengers Notts County.
