Barrow boss Andrew Whing is looking towards the positives despite a tough defeat against Cheltenham Town.
After back-to-back wins against Gillingham and MK Dons, The Bluebirds looked set to continue their good spell of form by seizing a two-goal lead at Whaddon Road. However, they suffered a capitulation in Gloucestershire, losing the match within a 16-minute spell.
“Hopefully The Results Will Come”
Speaking to the North-West Evening Mail ahead of their next match, an away trip to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, Whing reflected on what went wrong against The Robins.
“I think that first goal (for Cheltenham) just gave them the momentum and we just couldn’t stay with it. I think for the first 60 minutes, and the two games last week show that there are positives to take.
“Even in the Newport County game where we lost 1-0, we could have won three or four really with the chances that we had. But we realise that there is still probably that mentality barrier that we have to break.
“We have worked a lot this week on how we need to defend in better areas of the pitch. And we need to keep the ball a lot better. I think it (the Cheltenham, game) was probably our poorest game in terms of ball retention.
“If we can get those things right, then hopefully the results will come away from home , hopefully starting this weekend.”
They face a Crewe side slipping away from the automatic promotion spots but Barrow rank 23rd in points away from home, claiming just nine from 15 matches.

Writer’s View
Andy Whing is correct when it comes to there being a mental barrier in front of Barrow away from home. The Bluebirds only have two wins on the road this season, both coming in August and September. The Cheltenham game was probably their best shot at exorcising those demons, but just fell apart very quickly. Crewe’s form should give them some hope of making an immediate bounceback but they may once again come up short and extend their winless run away to 15 games in all competitions.
