Morecambe Boss Looking For Upset In Survival Race

Morecambe manager Derek Adams is looking to cause an upset as his side welcomes league leaders Walsall to the Mizuma Stadium at lunchtime on Saturday, as reported by The Express and Star.

The two sides are separated by 37 points and 21 teams in the League Two standings.

The Need For Back-To-Back Wins

Morecambe have claimed two victories from their last two home matches, defeating Fleetwood Town 4-1 and Accrington Stanley 2-0 before losing narrowly to promotion-chasing Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday.

The Shrimps are yet to win back-to-back league games this season and Adams admitted the difficulty in doing so.

“It’s proving very difficult and it’s something we have to try and do (put together wins).”

The former Bradford City boss is fully aware of the situation his side finds themselves in, a mini-league for survival that they must finish top of.

“We know how difficult a league we are in and we are in a three-team league at this moment in time – and we have to finish top of it.”

A Tough Task Ahead

Adams is under no illusions as to the task facing his side on Saturday against the league leaders, despite the Saddlers’ recent indifferent form. Mat Sadler’s men have a seven-point over their nearest challengers AFC Wimbledon but have won just once in their last six League Two outings.

“It’s (put a run together) something we’re trying to do but we understand the task we have against a Walsall team, who are at the top of the league and have been there for a number of weeks.”

“They might have had that five-game run but, before that, they had put together a number of victories.”

Despite their poor run, Walsall have still only lost six times this season with three of those defeats coming in the last three weeks. Adams knows the size of the task but is hopeful of causing a League Two shock this weekend.

“They are a good side who have performed really well this season and have plenty of threats.”

“However, there are shocks all the time in this division and we have to try and cause another one on Saturday.”

Writer’s View

Morecambe is still very much in the race for survival but is two points behind and has played a game more than their rivals so they really need to get a run of positive results together soon.

Walsall got back to winning ways last weekend against Chesterfield so this is going to be an uphill task for the Shrimps.
