“More Than Capable” – Carlisle United Boss Targets League Two Upset

Mark Hughes believes that his Carlisle United side have a strong chance to boost their survival hopes against Walsall.

The Blues finally got their first win of Sparky’s tenure after beating rivals Barrow in the Cumbrian Derby and are now within touching distance of escaping the relegation zone when they welcome The Saddlers to Brunton Park.

Hughes Targets Back-To-Back Wins

Speaking to the News & Star ahead of their midweek clash, Mark Hughes hopes that his Blues side can match their performance levels against Barrow.

“Consecutive wins at any level is huge and if we can manage it then it’s a huge statement moving forward, so let’s see what happens.

“It will be a different game I would imagine [to last Thursday’s clash with Barrow] but one that we’re more than capable of matching.

“You just hope that that permeates right through the squad and instead of hoping to win you expect to win. That’s the level we want to get to.”

The Blues are hoping to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in two years against the League Two leaders, who have seen their lead at the top of the table cut considerably over their past ten matches.

Mark Hughes should be confident coming into this game but it would still be a tough task to take down Walsall. The Saddlers have fallen into inconsistency and will face a Carlisle side invigorated by the chance of finally leaving the relegation zone with a win and other results going their way. The Blues could have Jordan Jones return to their lineup in this game, adding an extra forward to a team whose highlights across recent weeks has been in defence. Gabe Breeze has kept three clean sheets and with Swindon Town shutting one of the league’s best forward lines out last weekend, there is no reason why United can’t do the same.
