Millwall Make Goalkeeper Move Following Liam Roberts Decision

Millwall have decided to recall goalkeeper Dillon Addai as they face a shortage in options between the sticks.

The Lions only have one senior option available in first-choice keeper Lukas Jensen for their match against Bristol City this weekend after Liam Roberts faces suspension following his dismissal against Crystal Palace.

Addai Returns To The Den

Addai, the brother of Stockport County stopper Corey, was on loan at non-league side Chesham United, who he made 16 appearances for across the past three months. He is likely to become the substitute option for Jensen for some time as Alex Neil’s side wait to learn the fate of Roberts’ suspension.

The 30-year-old was sent off after VAR intervened in his challenge on Palace striker Jean-Phillipe Mateta, which required the French Olympic silver medalist to go to hospital. It is believed that the FA are considering adding extra sanctions based on the severity of the challenge, which was described by Eagles chairman Steve Parish as “the most reckless challenge on a football pitch I’ve ever seen.”

Roberts is currently banned for Millwall’s next three matches, starting against Bristol City, and also including their trips to Watford and Leeds United. He has made six appearances for the club since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer on a free transfer.

Writer’s View

Millwall were forced into recalling Dillon Addai due to the suspension and their lack of goalkeeping options after letting Connal Trueman head to MK Dons in January. It is a shame he can’t continue his development at Chesham United but he will be given a chance with the first team for the foreseeable future whilst Liam Roberts remains suspended. It is highly unlikely he will be called upon by Alex Neil but if the chance comes he will have to show he is ready and deliver in the Championship.
