Bradford City Loanee Delighted Following First Goal

Michael Mellon feels that a weight has been lifted from him after scoring his first goal for Bradford City.

The Burnley loanee was sent to Valley Parade following a failed spell at Stockport County and has found regular minutes for The Bantams in the midst of injury problems to Andy Cook and Calum Kavanagh.

“Completely Lost Consciousness”

Mellon finally got off the mark for City in dramatic fashion, scoring deep into added time against Salford City to secure all three points to take Bradford City to within four points of League Two leaders Walsall.

Speaking to the Telegraph and Argus about that moment, the striker said:

“I think I completely lost consciousness for about 30 seconds. A year’s worth of frustration came out in that one 30 seconds. I didn’t care about getting a yellow card – I had more important things to worry about!

“It was nice to be the one to send the away end into jubilation. I’ve never actually had a late winner, so it was a new experience. I’ll have to do it again!

“I think it’s a weight that I didn’t realise I had. A lot of people will have noticed that I hit a few shanks before I put one in the net.

“It’s definitely going to make me play with a bit more freedom now.”

Michael Mellon has finally got off the mark for Bradford and what a moment for him to have. His shot may not have been perfect but it did the job and got a vital win for City in their push for promotion. He will have a chance to do the same at Valley Parade tonight due to an injury to Antoni Sarcevic likely keeping him out to play Cheltenham Town. It is yet another crucial fixture for The Bantams to navigate if they want to keep their automatic promotion hopes in their own hands.
